The American Healthcare system has been described as the most complex business model ever devised placed on top of the most complex biopsychosocial model we know.  The explosion of data  being generated has created a growing need to create order and elegance.  By necessity this is being done within an ever changing landscape of medical knowledge, computer technology, social acceptance, legal decisions, political process and business development.

After 20+ years of self-study, practice and small program learning in medical computing, I embarked on formal training in Medical Informatics.  The MMI Program  at Northwestern University develops leaders who can harness the energy and creativity of both Healthcare and Information Technology professionals.  Trained in a synchronous program, these leaders are able to speak the languages of both Information Technology and Medicine to facilitate understanding between these disparate disciplines.    Perspectives on HIT
