Medical Data - Sources, Uses and Storage                           Home

Data is the lifeblood of Healthcare Informatics (HIT).  Healthcare data - including clinical, administrative, and financial data - flows throughout the system, forming the basis of medical information and effective decision-making.   When combined with knowledge-based programs and artificial intelligence methods, it is the fuel for computerized decision support.  Augmenting this with Natural Language Processing (NLP) can allow structured data entry to be optimized.  Effective database organization and management is essential to efficient data entry and searching.  Effective design, implementation, and management of database applications is the core of Health Information Exchange development.  But without adequate data mining algorithms  and data mining applications, data warehousing becomes impracticable.    Technology
