Perspectives on HIT Informatics

My perspectives on healthcare and informatics are borne of experience and training within this evolving system. Although it is hard to not describe the American Healthcare system as 'broken', perhaps it is more helpful to describe it as unbalanced. Each of the components are working diligently to be effective, but are not working well together. New technologies, with their disruptive capability, will at least temporarily create their own problems, but effective use and storage of data can bring the system back into balance. Within the boundaries of business, government and patient satisfaction, we can assure effective and efficient patient care to optimize patient outcomes. It remains unclear what this future will look like, but we can be assured it won't be what we have now.
